Pain Meds and Technology

Today began well and is wrapping up in a similar fashion. Dad’s primary pain medication was changed today and a pain medication adhesive patch was placed to help deliver a small but continuous stream of pain relief. These two small and simple alterations seem to have had a profound benefit. The true test will be dependent on how successful tonight is… On that front, we have begun rotating who stays with Dad over night – this is great for all of us to maintain sleep for emotional resilience and mental clarity. Dad even mentioned today that he feels differently with his new pain medication and believes we can level this out enough soon to make nights more tolerable and lucid.
Monday is going to mark relief for my Dad. Regardless of the degree which is necessary to resolve the bowel obstruction; whether it be manual, minor surgery, or significant, Dad will finally be able to remove the nasogastric tube that has been annoying his nose and throat all week! He is quite excited. Funny, but its the little things…
Some of you have sent BEAUTIFUL flowers and they are greatly appreciated. We have also received kind cards and many emails. THANK YOU! As we move forward, especially after surgery, please only send items that are fragrance and pollen free. As tough as my Dad is and will continue to be in this situation, his asthma and allergies are particularly sensitive.
References and research have been great – as are the quotes and bible verses. Please continue to send them to me.
Finally, this email update is growing slightly out of control 😉 We have put together a website to use in place of this ever growing update and ever growing list of people to send it to.  Please visit upside-of-down.com  I will be moving all the old updates over as well for easy reference. The site may not be fancy, but it allows anyone to enter their email and receive updates directly to their inbox automatically. The sign up box is in the lower right of the page and says “Follow.” As I continue to work on the site as a stress reliever during periods of down time, I hope to make it as user friendly as possible.
We know that we have been in your prayers; know that your are all in our prayers as well.
Hope and Love,
Richard
