Round 2 side effects were quite a doozy, lasting 8 days after chemo. Biggest challenges are appetite and exhaustion, but we battle on! I can always tell when I turn the corner… I woke Saturday morning to a ravenous appetite which I promptly remedied with the light meal shown below. It was delicious!

This week was full of visitors, family, a trip through old photo albums, success setting up the XBoxOne and much laughter with a house full of family and friends. This is truly the best medicine I could ask for. It’s the memories, the smiles, the prayers and the love I feel from all of you that boosts my strength and makes such a huge difference… These little ones bring the most joy… They’re like little Superheros sharing their special powers of love, smiles, and get well prayers and wishes.

Closing out this post, I wanted to share one of my favorite quotes and ask the we think about these words and we genuinely make an effort to follow this guidance. I thank all of you for your continued support, prayers and well wishes. It makes a huge difference having such a fantastic support group like all of you. If you haven’t yet had a colonoscopy, PLEASE DO NOT WAIT! If you won’t do it for you, do it for me….do it for your family, friends and all those that care about you!

With love, hope and prayers
Kevin

Hey “Charlie”,
I’ll have to send a photo taken of three of your “angels” from old NTSM meeting days–just as soon as I locate it.
I am glad you know you are surrounded by so many who keep you in thought and prayer on a daily basis, though you may not hear from all. And I know you have a host of angels surrounding you–both on earth and in the great beyond–that get you through the good times and the tough days.
From a two time Olympic swimmer and world champion–“you have cancer, it doesn’t have you”. I can actually imagine you saying that yourself because your energy never seems to enable you to fall victim to anything. And while I imagine this to be one of the greatest challenge to date, I can only hope your inspiring messages are as comforting and uplifting to you as they are to all of us you share them with.
It is so great to see you and thanks so much for posting a photo along with the updates. You have always been inspirational to me professionally and personally and I sincerely thank you.
I know you will hang in there. I envision the chemo as little pacmen who are chomping away and destroying the enemy, cell by cell. We love you and miss you!

Thanks Melissa,
What a great messageâ¦. I love the quote and may adopt it as part of my arsenal in the battle I have going. Cindy Fortenberry visited and she said thisâ¦. âIf the chemo is doing this to your body, imagine how bad itâs kicking Cancerâs ass! Yep⦠thatâs the plan.
Thanks again and take care Melissa. I canât wait to see you and of our team as soon as I can.
Cheers@
Thank You,

Kevin, So great to read your post! I enjoyed Richard’s – he did such a good job, but hearing from you personally means so much. I tried several times to send a message on Facebook, but I don’t know if they cleared. One of our sisters was caught off guard with the same cancer and after three rounds of chemo, she is doing well. It is a rough road, but look for the light at the end of the tunnel. My dad had colon cancer and lived fifteen years with a colostomy. You have been on the Dominican Sisters prayer list from day one. As you said, though, your grandchildren are your best medicine. They are darling, and I must say, their Grandad looks very good for all you have been through. That was a very hearty breakfast! Eating, even when you have no appetite, is critical, so when you are hungry that is a positive sign and enjoy it. Kevin, you are so loved, as is Mary and your boys. I have such fond memories of my visit years ago and remember fondly that you didn’t just attend mass as a family, everyone had some ministerial role to play. What a blessing! My love and prayers, Sr. Philip

Hi Kevin!
I have been following you for quite some time now. I love the picture of you and the little ones. I am glad you are in good spirits and actually played the XBoxOne. I wouldn’t even know where to start with that. I thought of you the other day because of the jewelry that you had been making. Do you still have the website for all of it? I can remember you coming and sitting with me in Anaheim and showing me pictures. I thank you for the continued encouragement that you gave me every time I saw you. Reading through your journey gives me encouragement as if you were sitting next to me. Keep smiling and fighting. You are always in my thoughts and prayers.

Thanks Marti…. Great to hear from you and I thank you for your thoughts and prayers. I haven’t done any jewelry work in quite some time and have sold or given pretty much all of it away. I’m going to try to pop in at the NSM. Hope to see you.
